In addition to a business mecca, Plano is also family friendly. Plano ISD has had a great reputation for decades due to exceptional teachers (most with an average of 11 years of experience), and great staff. An innovative two-year high school and two-year senior high school system allows schools to offer more vocational and elective classes which has proven very successful. U.S. News awarded all 10 Plano high schools with high performance awards and the district boasts a graduation rate of 95.7%, which is much higher than the 82.2% national average. The student to teacher ratio is 15:1, beating out the national average of 19:1. The ISD serves the residents of the City of Plano, with the balance including northern portions of the cities of Dallas and Richardson and parts of the cities of Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Lucas, Murphy, Parker and Wylie.
